Benefits:

Thermodynamic calculations
Customs Union Certification
Mechanical resistance calculations according to Russian standards
Very short deadlines (from design to delivery)

CONTEXT

This Russian petrochemical site is building a new isomerization unit, the first step to increase its production of high quality automotive fuels meeting European standards.

Alkylation and MTBE production units must be erected to meet the refinery's processing objectives and to meet its needs for high octane additives.

During the successive stages of transformation, in compliance with safety procedures, it is necessary to have pressure limiters (also called restriction orifices) which will be used in case of malfunction. These devices allow a pressure drop to evacuate the fluids and burn them in a flare on emergency. The evacuation line collects the fluids at a pressure of 2 bar; upstream, the restriction orifices are therefore essential to reduce the pressure of the fluids from their real pressure until reaching this value of 2 bar.

SOLUTION

During the various stages of the manufacturing process, the concentration and the chemical composition of the fluid vary as well as its temperature and pressure.
The restriction orifices were sized with inlet pressures ranging from 6 to 35 bar for temperatures ranging from 50 to 147 ° C, the aim being to reduce their pressure to 2 bar, pressure of the evacuation line .

The thermodynamic values of the fluid passing through the various stages of the restriction orifice have also been taken into account: its temperature, the density of the mixture, the compressibility coefficient especially for the gases, the isentropic coefficient are all parameters. which helped us to define very precisely the characteristics of the proposed devices.

Thus, taking into account all these values, we were able to precisely calculate the number of stages of each restriction orifice: from 3 to 11 stages for the most demanding, sometimes finding solutions for adapting the diameter.

11-Stage Restrictor Hole In-Process / Finished Product / Packaged

Radiographic examinations were carried out on 100% of the welds of all the devices that have also passed hydrostatic tests to check their tightness and their resistance to the pressure levels required.

These products being delivered to Russia:

- the mechanical strength calculations were carried out by a Russian inspection body according to Russian standards,

- the declarations and certifications of the Customs Union TR CU 032/2013 have been obtained.
